To accompany the presentation of the GFX 100S and X-E4 hybrids, Fujifilm announces three lenses: an 80 mm for medium format, a 27 mm “pancake”, as well as a 70-300 mm for APS-C cameras.
Along with the presentations of its two new bodies, the GFX 100S medium format sensor camera and the APS-C sensor X-E4 , Fujifilm unveiled three new lenses. We therefore find a fixed focal length for medium format cameras, the Fujinon GF 80mm F1.7 R WR, as well as two lenses for its APS-C cameras, the Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 R WR and the Fujinon XF 70-300mm zoom F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR. We are therefore in front of three “pebbles” with very different uses.
The brightest Fujifilm medium format lens
The Fujinon GF 80mm F1.7 R WR (63mm in 24 x 36 equivalent) is a very bright lens (the most open of the G mount), which will be used more for portrait photography. Despite its large aperture, the lens is relatively compact, for medium format, with its 10 cm long and 9.4 cm in diameter. It still weighs almost 800 gr, which is not nothing. However, given that it is made for fairly large devices like the GFX 100, or even the smaller GFX 50R , there is little concern about the risk of imbalance.
The lens, tropicalized, is in line with other Fuji products. Regarding the optical construction, the Fujinon GF 80mm F1.7 R WR is based on a formula of 12 elements divided into nine groups. This 80mm will be available towards the end of February 2021, for € 2,299.
A minimalist goal
On the other side of the spectrum, Fujifilm is releasing a new small 27mm for its APS-C cameras. Those who know the Japanese firm well will remember that there is already a 27mm in “pancake” format for APS-C, the Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 .
Beyond a slightly revised optical construction, this new versatile lens (40.5 mm equivalent in 24 x 36) wins above all tropicalization and a diaphragm ring. Weighing only 84 gr, for 2.3 cm long, the Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 R WR will slip easily into the pocket, an ideal ally for the new X-E4. This 27mm will be available for March 2021 and sold for $ 399.
A stabilized telephoto zoom
Finally, it’s time to conclude with a very different goal than the first two. This is the Fujinon XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR. This long telephoto zoom lens, still 105-450 in 24 x 36 equivalent, is an ideal product for sports or wildlife photography enthusiasts. Weighing just over 500 gr, the optics are relatively compact for a zoom of this amplitude. Its construction guarantees protection at all times, a point always important for outings in the countryside.
Two controls are installed on the lens barrel: one for modifying the operation of the autofocus, the other for controlling the behavior of the diaphragm ring. There is also a latch to lock the zoom position at 70 mm. To facilitate shooting, this lens also has optical stabilization. This is a useful function knowing that at Fujifilm only two cameras are equipped with sensor stabilization, the X-T4 and the X-S10 . The Fujinon XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR will be released in March 2021 for $ 799.
